Practice Groups

The 4 Training Groups of NJRC
Every member swimmer of NJRC is expected to attend at least 95% of their practice group schedule. The success of NJRC and the success of our swimmers to reach maximum potential depends on rate of attendance!
Novice Training Group (10 & Under): Practice expectations-two day a week program for the swimmers and to gain confidence. Instruction with emphasis for the competitive strokes along with starts and turns. Goal is to establish a smooth estimate base for competitive environment of the junior group. Drills/drills/drills.
Junior Training Group: Swimmers will continue to work on stroke technique with more of a focus on training than the novice group. Swimmers in the junior group commit to training 3 days a week. The most important thing in this group is to get each swimmer to reach a level of confidence that will ensure personal success.
Junior Elite Training Group: Swimmers must have at least 4 silver times to swim in the junior elite group. Swimmer must commit to training 4 days a week for at least 1 hour and 30 minutes a day. Instilling the “independent swimmer” within each swimmer. Each swimmer in this group is taught self-discipline, self-motivation and self-respect. This group prides itself on allowing the swimmer to make decisions (not their parents) that is conducive to their personal success.
Senior Training Group: Swimmers need to be able to swim 8 x 100 free on a 1:40 base interval. Swimmer must commit to training 6 days (or more) a week for 2 hours (or more) a day. Swimmers must swim High School (HS) and/or meets (if not - to be discussed). The senior group places an emphasis on the practices of discipline, determination, devotion and believing in oneself. A 90% attendance record is required to be able to attend NJRC senior levels. Attendance does not include morning practices. New athletes on the senior group will have their own attendance guidelines set by their head coach on a swimmer by swimmer basis.
*Each training group has specific attendance requirements appropriate for the objectives of their group. As a general rule, the least possible interruption in the training schedule will produce the greatest amount of success.
Plan to stay the entire practice. The last part of practice is very often the most important. Usually, there are also announcements made at the end of each practice.
